Dear Students,

Today, the Department offers two undergraduate study tracks, both taught entirely in English and designed to prepare students for successful careers in government, diplomacy, international organizations, business, civil society, and academia:

  1. Political Science and International Relations (PSIR) – available as a four-year regular study program at IUS, as well as a prestigious Double Degree Program with Istanbul University, allowing students to spend the first two years of their studies at IUS and the final two years at Istanbul University. Upon successful completion, students receive diplomas from both universities.
  2. International Relations and Diplomacy (IRD) – introduced as a separate four-year study track beginning with the 2026/2027 academic year. The program focuses on diplomacy, international organizations, foreign policy, security studies, negotiation, international law, and regional affairs, preparing graduates for careers in diplomacy and global governance.

The Department also offers postgraduate education through Master's (60 ECTS and 120 ECTS) and PhD (180 ECTS) programs. The undergraduate programs comprise 240 ECTS credits and combine rigorous academic foundations with practical and career-oriented learning. Both curricula are carefully designed to reflect the evolving nature of political science, international relations, and diplomacy while remaining responsive to contemporary global challenges and the needs of policymakers and practitioners.

Our curricula emphasize analytical thinking, research skills, policy analysis, and practical experience. Students engage actively with professors through lectures, seminars, research projects, simulations, conferences, and numerous extracurricular activities.

Beyond the classroom, students benefit from practical learning through guest lectures and study visits to government institutions, embassies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and diplomatic missions in Bosnia and Herzegovina. These experiences provide valuable insight into public administration, diplomacy, international cooperation, and policymaking.

The Department also offers exciting international opportunities, including scholarships, the Erasmus+ exchange program, the Double Diploma Program with Istanbul University, and minors in complementary disciplines such as International Business and Finance, Management, Economics, and Law. Undergraduate students are also required to complete an internship in Bosnia and Herzegovina or abroad, which provides valuable professional experience and strengthens their competitiveness in the job market.

Our core faculty consists of distinguished scholars and practitioners from Bosnia and Herzegovina, the United States, Belarus, Bulgaria, Türkiye, and other countries. They are dedicated educators, mentors, and internationally recognized researchers who bring extensive academic and professional experience into the classroom.

Graduates of our Department pursue successful careers in ministries, diplomatic services, international organizations, European Union institutions, non-governmental organizations, multinational companies, financial institutions, think tanks, media organizations, and academia. Many continue their education at leading graduate schools around the world. Whether students choose Political Science and International Relations or International Relations and Diplomacy, they receive an internationally recognized education that equips them with the knowledge, analytical skills, and practical competencies needed to thrive in an increasingly interconnected world.
